Among the institutions and people that have joined her tours are: the Getty Museum of Los Angeles, The Culinary Institute of America, The Archaeological Conservancy, and Chef Rick Bayless (PBS "Mexico: One Plate at a Time).
"I have known (and worked with) the Mendez family for nearly two decades and they never cease to be amazed at the astonishing sites and facts and flavors they uncover in the wondrous land that is Oaxaca. As the family grew up and scattered all over the world, Oaxaca brought them back. And their residing passion for the place—its geography, people, history and culture—is contagious. Whether it’s a personalized tour through villages or archeological sites, or a trip through the markets followed by a cooking class, the Mendez family will show you Oaxaca through Oaxacan eyes. They are very special people." |
"The Archaeological Conservancy is a nonprofit preservation organization in the US with a membership of 20,000. It offers archaeological tours through the US, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Peru to our members. The organization has been bringing groups to Oaxaca since 1991. For the past three years, we have hired Fernando Mendez as an archaeological tour guide for our groups. Javier Mendez, Fernando's father, has also assisted in guiding our groups. I have been pleased with the services provided by the Mendez family. |

"I highly recommend Tour Oaxaca and can't say enough good things about them. Every aspect of our tours with them was extremely well thought out and professional. Most impressive were the insights into Oaxacan culture gleaned from Fernando's very impressive knowledge about local arts, history and industries. There seemed to be no question he could not answer! |
"My friend and I just returned from a week in Oaxaca. We were given Fernando's name by another friend who had used him as a guide during her recent trip to Oaxaca, and emailed him shortly before our departure to arrange to spend a day with him during our trip. He responded right away as to his availability, and suggested several itineraries. We settled on a day and a time, and Fernando told us his hourly charge. Fernando met us at our hotel, (right on time!) and waited patiently as we finished breakfast. Our chariot awaited, with our own chauffeur. (Fernando's father drives the van, allowing Fernando to focus his full attention on us and his expert guiding). |
